Explore Nature Underwater
Snorkelling in Costa Rica is a great way to experience the local marine life up close. The warm, clear water makes it easy to spot colourful fish, coral reefs and, sometimes, sea turtles.
Excellent snorkelling spots can be found on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Cahuita National Park, located on the Caribbean coast, boasts calm waters and protected reefs teeming with parrotfish, stingrays, and moray eels. Places like Playa San Juanillo and Isla del Caño on the Pacific side offer clear waters and the chance to spot tropical fish and small reef sharks.
The best time for snorkelling on the Pacific coast is in the summer months (February to April) when the water is at its clearest.
Snorkelling here is safe, accessible and family-friendly. It’s not only a fun activity, but also a great way to learn about and appreciate Costa Rica’s diverse marine ecosystems.
