The green gold of Costa Rica

Costa Rica has the highest biodiversity per square metre in the world. The rainforest of Corcovado is home to more species per square metre than the Amazon. This extraordinary richness is thanks to the country’s unique geographical position: close to the equator and nestled between two oceans, it forms a natural bridge between the continents of North and South America.

Much of Costa Rica’s rainforest is protected within nature reserves, which are home to hundreds of bird species, mammals and reptiles, as well as thousands of insects and an endless variety of plants and trees. But Costa Rica’s natural beauty encompasses more than just life; it also encompasses the land itself, with its waterfalls, rivers, wetlands, lakes, mangroves, volcanoes and untouched coastlines.

Where to Experience the Rainforest

Rainforests in Costa Rica are found across the country:

  • Northwest: Sarapiquí plains and Tortuguero
  • Atlantic zone (Talamanca): Bananito, Parismina
  • Northeast: Tilarán highlands
  • Pacific zone: Cordillera Costeña and the Osa Peninsula (home to Corcovado National Park, the wildest region in the country)

At Into Nature, we design all our routes and accommodation to be located within or close to the rainforest, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in these ecosystems. You will also visit cloud forests in places such as the Los Quetzales Nature Reserve and Santa Elena, each of which has its distinct climate and species.

More Than National Parks

While Costa Rica’s national parks are remarkable, some of the most authentic rainforest walks take place outside of them. Many privately owned forest reserves offer a more personal experience, away from the tourist crowds. These pristine areas allow you to experience the rainforest in all its glory: vibrant, unfiltered and endlessly inspiring.

Into Nature will help you plan the ultimate trip away and show you the best of wherever you visit.
