Nature lovers visit all year round. Whether you want to witness natural spectacles such as sea turtle nesting or go whale watching, or enjoy active adventures such as hiking or rafting, we have created a yearly calendar to guide you.
If you’re tied to a specific time of year, that’s not a problem. We’ll recommend the best regions of Costa Rica for your favourite activities, rain or shine. You decide what you want to experience; we’ll help make it happen.
December to April
The driest months in Costa Rica are from December to April, especially along the Pacific coast. Around Christmas and New Year, tourism peaks and popular areas can be busy.
Even during the dry season, don’t be surprised by the occasional heavy downpour or afternoon thunderstorm, particularly towards the end of the season when it feels as if nature is longing for the first rain.
It’s called the dry season, but nature in Costa Rica always keeps you on your toes.
May to November
Costa Rica’s rainy season, also known as the green season, runs from May to November, with May and October being the wettest months. The Caribbean coast tends to receive more rain overall, though it often has a drier period in September, unlike the Pacific side.
Despite its name, the rainy season doesn’t mean constant downpours. In many regions, mornings are sunny and rain mainly falls in the afternoon, leaving plenty of time for activities.
A bonus is that hotel prices are often lower, and the landscapes are at their lushest and most vibrant.
Into Nature will help you plan the ultimate trip away and show you the best of wherever you visit.
